Johanna Oras Art Manor, Punkaharju
JOHANNA ORAS : SPIRIT OF TODAY 29.5-28.8.2011
Paintings, drawings, graphics
Open every day 10-18
This summer we take into use the whole of the manor and so we get more space for the exhibition and the art shop.
Last summer we were happy to receive a huge number of visitors - 24 thousand in all - and encouraged by this we continue to welcome visitors into the atelier so as to let them approach the mystery of artistic creation by having a peep in the different phases of the artist’s painting process.
Johanna Oras’s summer exhibition SPIRIT OF TODAY includes works painted on the French Riviera, in Punkaharju and Koski TL in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
As to art the spirit of today is that art belongs to everybody and it should be nourished every day in suitable portions.
The spirit of today is to live in fast cycles, everything should be available immediately, here and now.
The spirit of today keeps in time with the social media, whether we want it or not.
In the exhibition I also recollect my personal experiences of the catastrophic Asta storm last summer. The painting called STORM strongly reflects the dashing, shocking moments full of chaos, tumult, incredible volume and nature’s manifestation of power – as in a wild fantasy film.
A moment of that indelible memory in Savonlinna is now expressed on the canvas.
The exhibition also includes AFTERMATH OF STORM: feelings of serenity and calm, understanding of nature’s drama – in a minute everything is otherwise.
The spirit of today is to get hold of the present and, if possible, of the future, of what is left after us and what is the heritage we leave to the generations to come. A glaring contrast: luxury contra poverty. This theme is strongly felt in the painting HERITAGE.
The spirit of today is also beauty, colours, discussions, joy, a glass of sparkling wine in PRETTY IN PINK, where the world is seen as through rosy glasses.
BLUE VELVET wraps you in the blue velvet of the silvery moon shining in the night sky.
Please, do step in the tempting atmosphere of the summer exhibition – everything is ready for the FEAST TO BEGIN.

Following the spirit of today the Johanna Oras Art Manor pops up during the spring and summer in pop-up galleries in different places. The first of them was in Turku, the native town of the artist, where paintings with Turku themes inspired by the cultural capital year and by the award of honour granted to the artist by the Turku School of Economics Association are so far on display in Kulma 2011, Kristiinankatu 1, Turku.
